I would make it
clear to all the learners that their contribution is imperative and would earn
them marks but it has to be done at the right time, not lagging behind and then
coming up when everybody has moved to the next step. In that case they would
lose marks for inefficient collaboration. I would set a time limit and close
the site the moment the time is up. This is to instill discipline and try to
have control on the movement of the lesson.
I also think, it would be more effective if done in
smaller groups like say Four to six learners in a group. That would ensure
effectiveness and efficiency as far as posting contributions is concerned. A big
group brings/ causes laxity.
Thanks for the post. I agree with you that this work has not been easy. Maybe people were taken by the elections. Collaboration has been unnecessarily slow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post but sorry for the hardship you encountered. I believe it was unavoidable to some Ugandans.
ReplyDeleteHallo Maggie, I also think big groups encourage laxity. may be smaller groups can be better.
ReplyDeleteTrue Marggie we have encountered problems but most members agree that the next collaborative task should be better than the previous ones.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lesson for us too. We are likely to encounter the same scenarios when we incorporate it fully in our teaching and leaning. Strategies to improve on our lot should guide us on how to handle our learners.
I really get your point Margret of making students respect time when collaborating on an issue.
ReplyDeleteHard hitting ! Yrs! The team needed a nudge from the tutor! Talk of communication inertia!
